Run and Hike at Greensfelder

Deanna and I had to really pry Eli out of his chair Sunday morning to go on a hike.  We didn't have to coax Rex at all.  He was so excited to go on a car ride.  So excited that he whined and cried the entire drive out to Greensfelder.
He's so cute and pathetic at the same time.  Despite our best efforts, he still left tons of little white Rex-hairs everywhere, too.
It was in the 40's when we arrived at the Beulah shelter.  Not cold but the wind was, as usual, kicking pretty hard so it was a chilly start.
Rex didn't care.  He was itching to go.  This dude HATES to walk behind anyone and pulls pretty hard.  He loves the outdoors, though.
Beulah was the starting point, but the goal was to navigate the Fossil Ridge trail.  It's notoriously dry even after wet weather.
Rex was nipping at my heels to get by me.  I escorted the Greensfelder newbies down the connector, and after I showed them the entrance to Fossil Ridge, I started my run.  It had been a while since I'd done a hard trail run, and it was time.  My heel is not awesome but it's better than it has been.
Eli and Rex, enjoying the rocks and dry trail.
They make a great pair.  I ran past them once and Rex latched onto me.  He's fast!  He's not yet the great running partner he could be, but I think it would be fun to have a dog that could run with me.
It turned out to be a great run.  Not nearly long enough, but I was still being conservative due to the problems I've had with my heel.  I don't know how I could possibly have neglected that last .1 mile to get 3 miles...or the last .2 miles to get a 5k.  But it's good to be back running again and I'm hoping to keep going as it's been a great addition to my fitness life.
